Code military names in 1943 map

I recently got a copy of the September 1943 Pacific Ocean map, and it has what I believe are military code names handwritten next to some city and sea names. Anyone familiar with the Navy can confirm…Continue

Duplicated ad in May 1916 issue

Maybe this is already known, but I was going through my May, 1916 issue and I noticed that it has the same Kelly-Springfield tires ad twice, once before the articles and again after them. The ads on…Continue

Juan Carlos Herrera del Castillo replied to George Thomas Wilson's discussion 100 Year Ago: November 1924
"This was the first old NGM that I bought. I found it in 2003 in a antique shop in Prague, and it wasn't until 2016 that my collection became serious. I can't believe it's already a century old!"

Juan Carlos Herrera del Castillo replied to Keith Sargent's discussion Error Message During NG DVD Install
"It's indeed quite sad to read so many ads from people that want to get rid of their old Geographics but don't manage to give them away even for free, so they end up in the recycling bin. Here in Europe they're not so common, but most…"

Juan Carlos Herrera del Castillo replied to George Thomas Wilson's discussion 100 Years Ago: August 1924
"This is one of my favourite numbers in all the history of the Magazine. I was born in Algeciras, studied in Seville, worked in Ceuta and currently live in Cádiz, so all the places described in the articles are completely familiar to me, even…"

Juan Carlos Herrera del Castillo replied to Jérôme GANNE's discussion Searching for issues before 1975
"Hola Jérôme, Until a few months ago I did have some older doubles starting in 1905 (including January 1913, which I see you're looking for!), but unfortunately I have sold them and now my oldest double dates from 1944. Je suis…"

Juan Carlos Herrera del Castillo replied to Philip Riviere's discussion Big Cover and Spine Format Changes in the May 2018 Issue of the Nat Geo Magazine
"That is weird, as I thought that the American edition had ceased to be sold in newstands and was now subscription only. Why the barcode, price, and two cover versions, then? By the way, as we talked about the changes to the spine: in my collection…"

Juan Carlos Herrera del Castillo replied to Philip Riviere's discussion Big Cover and Spine Format Changes in the May 2018 Issue of the Nat Geo Magazine
"I like this spine much more than the previous one. The page of the article is back on the cover for the first time since year 2000, I think. I'm excited to see the Spanish edition, but sometimes it takes a few months for the changes to…"

Juan Carlos Herrera del Castillo replied to Philip Riviere's discussion Big Cover and Spine Format Changes in the May 2018 Issue of the Nat Geo Magazine
"I like the volume, number and full date to be back in the cover. What about the spine? Will it keep the last format? By the way, the Spanish edition never changed to the new spine, nor the XXXX.XX date, and now I hope it will never do!"

Hometown:

Why do you wish to join this community?
It's not so easy to find old National Geographics in Spain!
About Me:
I started buying the Spanish edition when it was launched in October 1997 (I was only 13 back then!), and continued by picking some old English issues in flea markets and in other languages when I travel abroad. Now I've got every issue since 1896 (except february 1897), the bound reprints from the 1960s and an original bound Volume 3 without covers or ads.
Favorite National Geographic publication:
The Magazine!
Favorite travel destination:
All the world, specially Middle East and former USSR.

This is what I have in my collection. I have the complete Spanish edition since No. 1 (October 1997), so I don't care much about the English edition from that year on.
