Code military names in 1943 map
I recently got a copy of the September 1943 Pacific Ocean map, and it has what I believe are military code names handwritten next to some city and sea names. Anyone familiar with the Navy can confirm this?
- Sea of Japan = John
- East China Sea = Edgar
- Yellow Sea = Butch
- Formosa = Frank
- Manila = Charlotte
- Palau = Phillip
- South China Sea = Sammy
- Lombok = Larry
- Guam = George
- Truk Islands = Tony
- Majuro = Mary
- Midway Islands = Mike
- Pearl Harbor = Joe
- Exmouth Gulf = Erma
- Perth = Pop
