The cover of the January, 1897 number lists the index to Volume VII in the table of contents; however, the index is not included in that number, but in that of February (not listed in the table of contents of its cover). My copies don't seem to have been manipulated. My reprints from the 1960s are bound and the index is included at the beginning of Volume VII, so there's no way to know in which number it came originally. Can anybody illustrate about this?

Sorry I can't help you with this, Juan. My Jan. & Feb. 1897 issues are individual reprints. The index is in the back of the Jan. issue where it is supposed to be, but that does not say anything about the originals. I hope you find your answer.
Yours in collecting,
Tom Wilson
Juan,
The original 1896 (Volume VII) Title Page, Table of Contents, and Index were published in the "original" February 1897 (Volume VIII) issue.
Yes, a little confusing, but they were just getting started back in those days.
The first year with 12 issues was 1896, the second year was supposed to be 1897 (but, they only did 11 that year). They got their act together in 1898 - mostly...

1896 was also the first year with advertisements . . .
