Problematic Early Issues, Opinions?

Several early originals (1892-1900) just went up on eBay. Most have taped covers or a separated front cover. The person offering them has the opening price set low and seems to understand these…Continue

Early Issues

I'm trying to put together a set of early reprints, but don't know how many issues are in the first few years. I know there was just the one issue in 1888, but how many are in 1889, 1890, and so on…Continue

1964 Reprints Question

Were 1964 reprints issued in brown leather binding? I have a chance to buy a nice run from 1888-1895, but I need to know if the chances are good of locating 1896-1900 with the same binding.ThanksContinue

Problematic Early Issues, Opinions?

Several early originals (1892-1900) just went up on eBay. Most have taped covers or a separated front cover. The person offering them has the opening price set low and seems to understand these problematic early issues are not worth as much as ones with intact covers. My question is, is it worth purchasing problematic early issues even at the right price? I haven't seen any offered in a couple of years. Are they so rare that problem issues are worth considering for an otherwise problem-free…See More

Do Abstract Articles Exist?

Posted on November 3, 2017 at 11:22pm 3 Comments

In the back of Volume 1, Number 1 (I just have a reprint), there is an abstract of the minutes beginning with February 17, 1888. Some of the later addresses from April and May were integrated into Volume 1, Number 1. But what about the earlier ones beginning in February? I don't see them listed in my 1888-1946 index. Were they perhaps printed by NGS as a one-subject paper, maybe in a limited run? I've never heard of them or seen them listed. Does anyone know about transcriptions of these…

It's interesting finding oneself looking to re-build a past NGM collection isn't it? When I was young I had what I thought was a "huge" NGM collection, and then while in the care of someone else (for long-term safekeeping), they got rid of them without telling me. I vowed I would get a Nat Geo collection again, and what feels like eons later, I did, ha-ha.
