** for the MAP & Geography enthusiasts here at our 'Corner ---->

Jigsaw puzzles were first created out of maps to test children’s geography knowledge.

Lore has it that John Spilsbury, a London cartographer, and engraver is believed to have produced the first "jigsaw" puzzle around 1760. It was a map glued to a flat piece of wood and then cut into pieces following the lines of the countries.

(this was all new & interesting info. for me this week!)

I am quite irritated & let down that in "The Complete National Geographic on DVD-Rom" set, none of the 'pictorial' supplements were scanned and included w/ each issue they pertained to . . .
