I've been asked to give an opinion on a collection of NG's that "supposedly" include original first few year issues. I'm trying to remember where the reprint line is as its been a while since I've seen the very early issues. Am I correct in that the reprint line is on the inside front page towards the bottom, or is it on the front cover towards the bottom?

Centered on the front cover about 1 1/2 inches from the bottom in small caps.
Thanks very much Melvin! Happy holidays to you and yours...
Thanks Phil! Do you happen to remember which years were reprinted? Was it through 1896? Happy holidays to you and yours as well!
John
Through 1907
John,
Reprints covered the 1st 20 years of the National Geographic Magazine from 1888 - 1907. No reprints after 1907. Reprints are found in bound yearly volumes as well as individual monthly issues.

Of special note is the 1922 reprint of Volume I, No.'s 2 and 4.
These DO NOT have the word reprint on them, but are distinguished from the originals by a purplish/brown cover with four vertical, parallel gray pinstripes.
Though somewhat rare themselves, these reprints are only valued around the $150.00 range versus the originals valued around the $1500.00 dollar range.
