Hello,
Can anyone confirm that the World Maps given away to new Subscribers were different than those that are supplements contained in the monthly magazines? I distinctly remember (I don't have one as an example) that in June 1979 there was a different World map and also in January of 1980 (The dates on the World maps were different than the last World map released by NG in Nov. 1975.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
The Society released new versions of the same world map as supplements semi-regularly over many decades. The last five were:
11/1975
05/1981
12/1988
02/1994
11/2004
They all use the same template so they are a continuous stream of revisions. Roger Nathan documented that they revised this map many time between the release of a new supplement. These revised versions usually just had the year of the revision with no month. They may be what you are trying to verify.
The Society does continue to revise their world map and sell it as a separate item, but they no longer issue it as a supplement. As to whether this is the map given to new subscribers, I can't help you.

Tom,
Thanks, that was very helpful.
Steve
No, the newest post-2004 map sent to new subscriber's is a different appearance + format.
The map given to new subscribers is OK but not as good as the ones that came as supplements. The countries are too dark in color and less detailed. They really need to update and issue supplement maps again. The maps that came with the magazines show you a political historical view of the world since 1922. Europe maps started in 1912 with :Countries Bordering the Mediterranean".

Indeed, I agree with you Harold ~ !
yeah the paper is uber-thin and the detail is small.
