January Issue

1964 Bound Reprint – the last ad page is reversed from the “originals” – that is the bound obverse is the original reverse and visa versa.

December Issue, re: First, one and only, ad page, on its reverse side, bottom half

            “original” has “Beck Engraving” advertising

“reprint” has NGS “Old Copies Desired” ¼ ad & “Remington Typewriter” ¼ ad

Any thoughts as to why the NGS published reprints would be different than the originals?

Quickie thought: perhaps they made "handling" mistakes when preparing the pages for the printing press process?

They could have made an oversight in collating.....or they could have manually set a page backwards (reversed) while setting the pagination order - for the 1964 reprint.

Question: are the page numbers correct, but reversed? Or are the page numbers in order, and the 2 sides of the ad page are actually numbered opposite from the original ?
Scott, I didn't know the ad pages were numbered? Have I overlooked something all these years? HA!

The "reversed" page as a "handling" mistake seems to be the most reasonable excuse for the January issue. It doesn't for the December issue since the bottom half of the reverse is a completely different printing.
Hmm, maybe there isn't any page numbers printed on the Ad pages - I just made the comment off the top of my head without actually looking at my reprint copies! We'll have to check.
