International versions of Nat Geo?

I am looking for a one-page ad I saw in a National Geographic that was delivered in Brazil in February 1975. I always remember it as being in an October 1974 issue, as delivery by boat mail was…Continue

Looking for ad by Portuguese Tourist Board - Fall 1974 issues of Nat Geographic - South American edition?

My initial discussion thread on International editions of NG, looking for a specific ad by the Portuguese National Tourist Board turned up one from February 1975, with similar text but radically different graphics. I saw the ad in an issue delivered to the interior of SP state, Brazil, on February 22, 1975.I have always believed that issue was October or November 1974. Any collectors in South America who can confirm any ads in the fall 1974 issues of National Geographic? I'm open to discuss…See More

International versions of Nat Geo?

I am looking for a one-page ad I saw in a National Geographic that was delivered in Brazil in February 1975. I always remember it as being in an October 1974 issue, as delivery by boat mail was always delayed. In an effort to find that ad, I ordered back issues of NG from Aug-Dec 1974, but the ad is not in any of them, leading me to think there may have been special issues for sending internationally. I know some magazines printed on thinner paper when sending overseas. If that's the case, the…See More

Hi Austyn

Yes, I am still on the lookout for the specific ad I described. (George) Thomas found a related ad in the Feb75 issue, as above, HOWEVER, when I ordered that issue from NatGeo, this is the cover and the ad on the inside back cover. This confirms what I've concluded: the same issue was sent out with a variety of advertising contents. The ad above is obviously part of the same advertising campaign, but with a completely different graphic layout. I ordered all the back issues from Jun74 to Feb75 and none of them had the ad I'm looking for, nor the one that George sent. I am keenly interested in acquiring an issue with the ad I saw in Feb75. Unfortunately, I don't know what issue it was in, but it had to be within that window of fall 1974 or Jan-Feb 1975.

After getting the Feb74 issue with a totally different ad, I gave up and resolved to be content with the "sister" ad.  You mention selling your collection...you wouldn't "happen" to have what I'm looking for, would you?
