Error Message During National Geographic DVD Install

Error Message During Install
I discovered this yesterday when I was trying to install the software reader on a new computer.
What a crazy trick: change the date to 2010! (I was running the new computer under Windows 7)

I realize this is almost 4 years later but I have looked for a solution to the exact same problem with installing The Complete National Geographic on a Windows 10 and didn't find an answer. After much trial and error I discovered if I changed my clock back to 2010 it would install. Once the installation completed I could change the clock back to today's date and the software works.

I also came across this page while trying to install The Complete National Geographic on my HP Laptop running on Windows 10 as of August 2020. I had installed Adobe Air as the National Geographic support suggested (https://help.nationalgeographic.com/s/article/complete-national-geo...). Reading here, I thought I'd set the year to 2009 just to be safe (earlier than 2010) but it didn't work! Oy! So I tried setting it to 2010 and it worked! No installer error, now I can look at old Nat Geogs until school is back in session in a few weeks haha. thank you @ceezee1!

This is great!  Thanks for the info!  (Now if Disney would only issue post-2010 DVDs)

. . . yes, a very peculiar work-around, eh ?

Keith,

This is an excellent tip.  You may want to move it to another Forum than "Buy/Sell/Trade."  I'd suggest "Resources & Links" since it is a resource.  That way, once this discussion is bumped off the home page, it will be easier to find in the future.

Yours in collecting,

This sounded promising but I haven't been able to get it to work. Once I set my system date to 2010 and disconnected from the internet to ensure the clock didn't get reset and corrupt any files, I was able to access the contents of the installation CD but nothing happens when Autorun is selected or the setup file is double clicked.

The link for the Adobe Air installation is no longer valid, so I searched for it and found a download site

which is a minefield of confusion with links trying to install a myriad of programs. I did manage to get the file: AIRSDK_Windows.zip, within which the release notes designate it as:

ADOBE AIR SDK RELEASE NOTES   Version 50.0.1.1

...but it does not have any setup or 'exe' files that I can find, so I don't understand what to do with it.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Adobe Air is no longer supported and the links are dead. We subscribed to the magazine for over 20 years and when the CD collection came out we donated the 240+ magazines we had so that we could just enjoy the editions on our computer.

To me it is near criminal of National Geo to have not updated the installer for the CD's or made it available online for people who had been subscribers.
