who knows about this woman? please help!! need to find kinship.

hello, i recently purchased a lot of antique books, ( a whole pic-up truck full!!) and to my suprise found womans whole occupational history. her name was carrie e. aiken, and she was a teacher in high school in jamestown ny from the 1880s- 1920s. i donated some of the artifacts to the local historical society last year. and while thumbing through '' the descent of man '' by darwin, out pops this national geographic society document. dated july 19 1913. my question is how did she get this membership and for what action she did to recieve this, also would like to find kinship, for this must be an inportant achevement. please help. thank you for your time, the nelson family..

Very nice of you to try & seek out her descendants to see if they want any of the archives. Good luck in your search. I believe that certificate is the equivalent to the certificate you get today when you join the Society & subscribe.
All members (subscribers) were issued such certificates from at least 1903 to mid 1990s. They vary greatly through the years, and the condition of Ms. Aikens means it likely has little collector's value. While some membership certificates have reached $100+, in the condition this is in (even for its comparatively early date), I would suspect less than half that. Tracing the lady locally is probably your best chance, but if historical society lacks information, I don't know what other resources to refer you to
