Selling a very rare piece of National Geographic ephemora from the mid 1920s.

Selling a very rare piece of National Geographic ephemora from the mid 1920s.

It is a cardboard tube used to send out the National Graphic magazine through the post.

This is a rare item because although thousands (if not millions) of these postal tubes were produced, practically all of them would have been thrown away.

Where would you find another 1920s National Geographic Magazine tube?

The item (with lots of pictures) is on eBay and here is the direct link...

If this doesn't work go to eBay and search 174975872037.

So we can raise as much money as possible for the Cat Protection League charity I'm hoping that you will bid on the item.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

If you want to read on....

To give you some background this item was bought into the Cat Protection League charity shop in Edinburgh, Scotland as part of a large donation by a niece of a lady in her 90s who had recently gone into long term care.

The old lady loves Cats and wished that any household items the family didn't want from her house should be donated to a Cat charity.

Presumably the tube was given to a child who collected stamps (perhaps the old lady herself?) but the address label has been carefully removed (presumably by the donor) so the year of the postmark is missing.

The Martha Washington 4c brown stamp dates from 1923 - 1926 and was only issued in Washington which gives provenance to the postmark and makes the stamp itself quite rare.

For more info see

The date and time of 7:30pm January 31 is presumably when the February edition for that year was put to bed and posted out.

Actually, these tubes were not used to mail the National Geographic Magazine. They were used mail membership certificates to new members of the National Geographic Society. My grandmother's membership certificate was mailed in this tube and both are a cherished part of my collection.

That is correct. Not what NGS used at all for mailing magazines. Needs to be reworded correctly so to not make people actually believe that lol
