National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

Hello Everyone,

I have a collection of National Geographic magazines all the way from back in the early 1900's. I am interested in putting them up for sale.
Anyone interested?

Hi Billy,

I am not sure yet what to sell them for. I know I don't want to trade anything...I am trying to make some space. I will get back to you in the next couple of days and let you know OK?

Thanks,
sherrill
Sherrill,
I'm sure you can probably get some money for the issues. However, if you are of an altruistic nature, I would solicit your donating some of the issues for the college classes I teach at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I teach elementary and middle school education majors how to teach social studies/history in a meaningful, hands-on way. I use the old Nat Geo's in my classes. Students use them to help understand the culture, technology, anthropology of the time period the mags were published. Currently I have most issues between 1917 - 1925. If you would be interested in donating a few issues (I don't need a lot), I'd really appreciate it. I'm looking at any issues in the 1930's and/or 40s, since I have the teens and twenties covered. You can go to the University of Nebraska Website http://www.unl.edu/ to search for my name and contact information and verify that I do teach at UNL. I'd love to hear from you. Be ASSURRED that if you do donate some issues, they will remain in my possession for use with my students and not be sold or traded to collectors, dealers, etc.

Hi,

How wonderful of you to do that. That is something I would definitely consider. I am all for helping kids in every way. Currently I am waitng for a go ahead to sell them (or donate) from a family member who is undecided. I will let you know as soon as I find out. How are we going to handle the shipping of them if it does happen?

Sincerely,
Sherrill
Thank You. The students really are amazed at the things they find in the Nat Geos. When you find out anything, do let me know. My direct e-mail is wlopez2@unl.edu. I can send postage paid labels so you won't have to pay for any shipping.

That is good to know. I will let you know as soon as I can.

Please define "early 1900's". Are these bound or the individual issues? What is their condition?
Hi,

They are individual issues. I am not sure how far back they go. One of my family members has them and I am waiting to see if they are in agreement to sell them. The collection belonged to my grandfather and they started collecting them when they first started issuing them. I don't think since the very beginning but definitely since the early 1900's.

Thank you,
Sherrill

Hi Sherrill!
