National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

Hello everyone,

For those who use this site regularly, do you have any thoughts or opinions about migrating to Ning 3.0? Lately I've been getting e-mail reminders about this and am wondering if eventually they will stop supporting our 2.0 platform.

Best wishes,

First major question:

1] can they "migrate" all our existing posts + pictures and member profiles, etc?

I understand these tech companies love to "upgrade" their software often, but it'd be terrible to lose everything we've done here. People have passed away. The rest of us would have to re-create all our work, etc. etc.

Scott

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, that's what I'm worried about. They say it will transfer, but in my experience, that's what IT people always say. I've been ignoring this upgrade message for quite awhile because we're grappling with this on so many fronts at work--various library & archival catalogs being transferred to new systems.

I'll probably need to talk to someone at Ning to get more info. My preference would be to have some sort of back-up or duplicate of this site before any sort of transfer.

Best wishes,

Cathy

That was my main concern as well, Scott.  To a much lesser extent, #2 would be the look-and-feel of the new version; i.e. how to navigate, post, edit, etc., the more similar to Ning 2.0 the better.

Thanks for the heads up, Cathy.

Tom

What Scott and Tom have already stated.

Thank you for taking this on Cathy, very much appreciated.
