National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Here is a complete Reprint set of 1888-1907, that my uncle bought brand new, (along with a lifetime subscription). I would like to know what would be considered the current fair market price for this 18 volume set. According to my uncle, these books were rarely if ever used, they were simply boxed and wound up in storage, until recently.

I would like to entertain reasonable offers to see if they would be worthwhile to sell, to see if present economic times warrants them being sold.

FYI - please read five posts below this one on the main forum, re: 1888-1897 Reprint...

That post mentions past sales from over a year ago.  I am currently seeking offers, and trying to determine more up-to-date pricing information.

Dear Yonason,

The info. and $ figures presented in that other thread mentioned by Mr. De Vilbiss is still quite accurate and relevant. The "pricing" on NGM's does not automatically increase with each calendar month or year.

The bound reprint set should always command a somewhat consistent, premium price regardless of bad times ("bad", ie., especially 2008-2010), though other NGM's can ebb and wane with other economic factors.

To say off-hand that your set could fetch $3,000+ not unrealistic, but that would likely be a collector familiar with NGS and its history.

Sets like your uncle's in visibly used/read condition would still deserve $2,500+ at least, as far as I can tell from all the sales I've seen and the dealers I've talked with. If you found the right person in a hurry to get the whole set at once in such good shape, you could potentially manage $5,000, but they would have to have both a deep interest in, and disposable income for, such a set.

kind regards,

Scott, Thanks for the info
Thank you so much for all of the information and posts. I ended up listing the set on ebay, and it has been sold.
