National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

Similar to my previous discussion I noticed differences between my copy of the June 2002 issue and what is shown on the archive.

-Front cover is identical

-Contents page is the same

-Letters are present

-I am noticing a lot more ads in the archive version.

-I noticed there is no "Insight on Brazil" page, which I notice tends to be tied to the HSBC advertisements (see attachment) - this is after the "GEOGRAPHICA" page

-I have the "Chinese Soccer" page but not the "Feats of Clay Page" or the "A New Old View of the Tower",  but I do have the "Behind the Scenes" page (in fact those two are side by side).

-I don't have the "Mickey Mouse artist" page but I do have "In Praise of the Female Athlete" page

-The "get the picture" page is next to the "Ask us" page, and  the "Fallen Hero" page is completely removed.

-Everything after this point is identical though I notice more ads at the end embedded between the last few pages.

Now while I came to investigate this particular issue is that according to sources here and lists elsewhere, this issue is supposed to come with the map:

"Quest for Everest"

Now I thought it was quite curious that my issue and the archive have no mention of this. In fact, what was puzzling was that when I typed in "quest for everest" on the archive search, it led me to the Everest map of 2003-May (Everest 50) - which I do have and is indicated to be present in that issue. The odd thing though is that it is labeled as "2002-June" in the archive search result.

Looking elsewhere on the internet, it appears that the map is real and does exist:

It is curious that there appears to be no mention of anything Everest related in the 2002-June issue yet there is a supplement in this issue of that topic? I wonder why this issue came with this particular supplement (to US subscribers at least?).
