National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

I happened into about 400-600 issues of NGM, ranging from 1938 to 1994. After going through and pulling the issues I need to fill in holes in my collection, I'm stuck with about 300 duplicates, mostly from the '50s to the '80s. Some years I have triples or even quadruples of.

What's the best way to dispose of these? I'm guessing I should try to build as complete a set as I can and sell that, and then sell individual complete years, and then bundle the leftover issues and sell those? They're mostly in really good shape.

I've got a used bookshop here in Richmond that deals in NGMs, but I don't know that they'd be willing to shell out for a collection that size.

So I haven't gotten any kind of response... what do you guys think about selling on eBay? What's the best way to break the sets up to sell that way? One year, 5 year, 10 year lots?
Tom,

1-year sets are probably the best chance (via eBay). It would be time consuming to sell individually (plus listing fees).

If any of them are not in good condition, then those are not worth putting any effort into.

Thanks, Scott. I'm hoping to find someone local to me to pick them up, but if I can't do that, I'll ship them out by year.
I'm in the same situation. I've decided to buy a stack of prepaid USPS priority mail envelopes ($5 each) and then sell them individually. I think most people are just trying to fill small gaps in their collections. I've given up on Epay due to their outrageous fees. The site I'm currently using is free (www.b56w.com) but doesn't have a large number of users yet. However, I did sell a couple of items in the last week which is my first week using this site. Best of luck to ya.
