National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

I own an estate sale business and my current client has several older National Geographic bound editions to sell. I was hoping to get a good idea of what to ask for each set. All have a dark blue binding and come in two-volumes for each year. There is also what appears to be an "Index" book--I don't have it in front of me and don't remember exactly what it said on the spine, but it was something like that. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Even your eight volumes in uniform binding are not tremendously valuable, as people want long continuous run in a binding, and usually leather, three-quarters leather or faux leather would be much more likely to sell than these. Blue buckram certainly won't command a premium. If you get more than $30-$50 from a NG colector I would be stunned.

Conversely, these issues contain some of the earliest Inca articles by Hiram Bingham, and quite probably have a greater Inca collectibles market than among NG collectors. Especially if some of the fold-out pictorials are present, I would advise you scanning each and putting in as much detail as possible in the descriptions. Single issues not even in excellent condition can go for $25 and up. So, your best bet is probably auction among Inca collectors

Good luck

Are the following for sale? and how much? Dark blue bound editions, 1913 July-Dec. 1914 July-Dec, I have the 1913 and 1914 Jan-June books or how much for all 8 books. I'm an oil painter and I use them for reference from that era. Lance

Hi Angela!

Is the collection still available?  Where are you located?  I'm in Bancroft, Ontario, Canada.
