...look at this listing for 42 maps from 1930s-1940's. The seller is a bit out of touch w/ reality of value for these, no?

Oh come now Scott, he DID say they were "vintage", haha ... and he will pack them with "extreme" care ....
Funny you mention this, I have seen, on various sites, magazines and maps for sale that I am sure the seller had just received them from either a relative or found them or whatever.... but has no concept of what they have in their possession.
Would you believe I have seen a ad advertising 10 years of mags that were 1990-1999 and saying that they were in excellent, pristine, mint condition, and that he wanted $300 firm for them and would not budge on the price because, after all, they were 15 to 25 years old and even more so, the fact that they were from the previous millennium makes them rare and valuable ... haha.
...oh, you got a laugh from me when I got to your part with "rare". I always laugh & marvel at these listings where they say something w/ 6-11+ million copies is rare or one of a kind!!
$300 for 1990-1999? WOW. One time I paid $350 for the 1950's - 1990's, with all supplements, in excellent condition, AND all with Society slipcases. I was thrilled to pay the amount for what I got, even though for just the NGM's themselves, it caused duplication.
Just a bit, at least they discounted it 75 bucks from the original price.
well, sure, haha. At least now it's more affordable, *rolls eyes.
