PAUL L. CRIST1962-2010Paul LeRoy Crist passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of February 22, 2010, at his home in Houston, Texas. He was 48.A native of Denver, Colorado, Paul graduated from George Washington University, earned a law degree with honors from Columbia Law School, and completed graduate programs at the Economic Law Institute in Frankfurt, Germany, and the University of Houston Law Center. Paul served as law clerk to the Hon. Jerry E. Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and worked for many years as counsel with Meyer Orlando LLC, specializing in Federal appellate cases. Paul was admitted to the bars of New York, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Supreme Court and several U.S. Circuit Courts. He was a past member of the Maritime Law Association, a multiple-term president of the Houston chapter of the Federalist Society, and a Life Member of the National Geographic Society.Paul is survived by Ann Webb, his wife of over 18 years; their daughter Elizabeth Crist; his mother Elfriede Crist of Denver; and family and friends in Texas, Colorado, Germany and elsewhere.A memorial service will be held Friday, February 26, at 3:00 PM at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Ave. in downtown Houston. Memorial gifts in Paul's name may be made to the Houston Masterworks Chorus (www.houstonmasterworkschorus.org); National Geographic Society (www.nationalgeographic.com/donate/); or a charity of choice

I am so saddened to hear of this. I only just "met" Paul in back in 2007 via the old reincarnation of this Collector's Corner. I had no idea there was any health concerns. I have been awaiting his reply to my most recent email with him, and now I know why there was no reply, obviously. I had thought he was out-of-town perhaps.

I wish I could have known him better. I had so many things I still wanted to discuss with him about National Geographic. He was very friendly to me these past 2 and 1/2 years and quite helpful and patient with my many questions! He was also on a Yahoo!Groups National Geographic Collector's page with myself, others....

I am Paul's wife and am touched by your comments. He so much enjoyed the time he spent with his fellow collectors. I'm just sorry I've never had the chance to meet all of you in person. Thank you Michael, for posting this.
