We all know the famous December 1988 Hologram issue which discussed the earth and environment. My uncle Buzz who for many years was a National Geographic subscriber told me a few years ago that National Geographic intended to publish several more issues with a hologram covering. But, because of cost the society ditched the idea thus having the December 1988 as the one and only hologram issue. Is this a true story or can anyone provide information? I by the way have about 5 copies of this edition. No idea if they will be worth anything 100 years from now.

... the one and only full-cover hologram issue ---> don't forget March 1984 and November 1985's holograms too.
Robert, I have no knowledge of more hologram covers being planned, but I know through reading and research that they had significant problems at the printers in making the 1988 issue. There is nothing in the NGS history books about their intending to publish more.

Yes, that Centennial Historical Atlas of the U.S. is great! They put out a revised edition in 1993, too.
I love the 1988 issues of NGM : - )
