Abramo,

The PBS TV add on the left is for US copies of the Nat Geo. The one on the right could be an Australian or Canadian edition..

Phil, there is a way to recognise a Canadian or Australian Issue?

Abramo,

For your 2 variant March 1984 copies ---> check/compare  the inside cover of the NGM's, at the bottom "copyright" area: it should show non-US $ for the per year/copy price - if it was being sent to Australia, England, (Canada maybe).

Prior to the 2000's, NGM's were printed IN the U.S. only, and sent abroad. In that 1998-2002 timeframe, as they were implementing the foreign (language) editions along with the then-new N. American newsstand sales, the copyright notifications changed a bit. To wit: the 2000's NGM's for other countries literally show non-US currency in the pricing.

I shouldn't think it wouldn't be as common (now) to have a plethora of post-2000's non-N. American copies IN the U.S. now without buying & importing them. NGM nowadays actually is printed regionally/locally per each of its non-English editions.

Hmm, oh well, was curious to try. I have never made a habit of buying the non-U.S. variances for the TV announcements on the covers, for all these 70s, 80s, 90s issues. 2 gentleman specifically that I know would have had an answer on this have sadly passed -- they likely may have known where an identifier was 'buried' to say yeah this 1984 was Australia, and this one was U.S., maybe!

Abramo,

Another thought on the question of a Canadian or Australian destination for the magazines... I think the mags with the PBS ads would also go to Canada because they share so much of our programing but I don't know if they watch our PBS stations....

Maybe a Canadian member of the corner could answer whether they watch our PBS stations...
