Abramo,

Love the pair of images.  Do you mind if I copy this image and put it in my post of alternate covers?  I'll give you full credit of course.

There have been a few of these "split cover" type presentation NGM's, for the N. American newsstand market. I will post some more sample photos either below or in a photo album.

Note: the strips on the LH half are only glued along the LH edge thinly, so that they flip to see the full cover image under, as well as the reverse of the strips contain some kind of NGS-related ad or announcement.

As far as I have been able to track, along w/ a German collector friend, there are thus far only 3 instances of this split cover, under the general category of 'alternate newsstand' covers...

April 2011:

Here's the under-side view, and the back side of the strip:

August 2011:

Here are a few takes on the split-cover for August  ---> the  N. American newsstand, reg. member's edition, and the Euro/U.K. alternate cover, yet still English-language edition.

and,

I think this one is interesting in that on the split-cover version, there is no text whatsoever on the image proper.

...and,

lastly, December 2010:

Sure Abramo      : - )

I forgot to also mention that there have been some foreign-language NGM's w/ "split covers" too, such as Germany. I'll try and find 1 or 2 pics I have and show them...

Scott,

Thanks for the wealth of information on this issue (and others).  I've already corrected my entry in my Cover Variations post in the Ephemera group to reflect your info.
