National Geographic collection, 1950-2004, with slip cases like new, including map slip cases and 100-Year Index & 10-Year Addendum Index; many magazines in VG condition, with slight wear on others.
Extensive National Geographic collection ranging from 1950 to 2004. Each year's magazines are encased in the official National Geographic leather slip cases, two for each year (Jan-June & July-Dec). This collection is missing slip cases for the years 1956 to 1960, but all others are included and in very good condition, plus it comes with several of the National Geographic map slip cases as well to hold the numerous maps in this collection. Comes from a non-smoking, non-pet home. Many of the magazines are in pristine, new condition, while some of the others are older and were procured from either estate sales or antique stores. Not all years are complete with every magazine from that year, but approximately 95% of the slip cases are complete.
To complete this set, the 100 Year National Geographic Index (hard back) comes with it, also in excellent shape and dust jacket. This index covers all years from 1888 to 1988. An additional 10-year index addendum is also included, which indexes the years 1989-1998. This is an excellent resource, especially for those desiring to use this collection as a resource for classroom or research study. If you are looking for information on a particular topic, you can look it up (alphabetically arranged) in the index, and it will direct you to which year and monthly magazine will have information about that topic. For example, if you are interested in finding out information through National Geographic about walruses, you look it up in the index and it will direct you to which year(s) and month(s) have published information about walruses. Makes an excellent tool for the teacher, librarian, or student desiring to use this resource to the fullest of its capacity.
Brand new, this entire collection would cost approximately $2000 through National Geographic...and that's including a discounted price for the yearly magazine subscription! An asking price of $400 for this very unique and extensive collection is a great investment for anyone wishing to use these books in an academic setting or for pleasure reading. The slip cases alone cost way more than the asking price.
Excellent purchase for:
*school or community librarians looking to expand their school/public library's collection
*teachers wanting to add to their classroom resource collection
*home schooling families desiring to expand their reference section at home
*antiquities collectors
*those who simply love to explore these magazines & keep them on hand at home
