Hi Jeff,
It would help us to know what binding your copies are in (i.e., which bindery co., as there are different particular bindings, and not all are "equal").
Other key pieces of information would be:
- do your copies have the covers bound in?
- are there maps/supplements present (either bound in, in rear board pockets, or inserted loose)
- are the advertisements bound in with the issues, or absent? A simple picture of the spines of these bound copies would inform experienced Nat Geo-ites which binding they are.
