National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

Hi everyone, I posted three years ago after my dad died and never got around to doing anything about his NG collection. I’ve been thinking that I would donate every issue from 1950- (but where), then try to sell 20s, 30s and 40s as decades, and sell years 1906-1919 by the year (but where). Does this make any sense? I’m pretty busy so it’s hard to devote a lot to this but I can’t bring myself to haul them to the town recycling center! Any advice/reality checking is much appreciated. Thank you. Chris

You've got the right ideas - but the market is extremely tough at this time. Sales are very sluggish.

Here's an eBay search for 1908:

National Geographic magazines, 12 months 1908 | eBay

Watch this and see what it sells for, if at all...

Try this for each of the years you wish to sell individually.

Selling the 20's, 30's, & 40's by decade will be problematic (large shipping costs).

Other than this, get in touch with people in the dealer directory (link in the upper left column of the main pg of this forum).

Good Luck!

Mel

Thank you very much Mel. What you say about decades makes sense. Do you think the market will improve? Or are the days of the NG collector essentially over, does everyone who collects pretty much have what they need from 1906-on? My dad loved his NGs so much, I just can’t toss them. But I’m going to have to sell his house in the not too distant future and they need a home. I will check out the dealers.

Hello, I would be very interested in the 1906-1950 section! Are you still selling?

Hi Robert - Yes indeed I am. Please feel free to email me at hcsorensen@hotmail.com with any questions. Happy Thanksgiving and best regards, Chris Sorensen

Hello:) do you still have decade of 30s left tor sale? Maybe even 40s?

Hi Wildbunch, thanks for your message. I’m sorry, I’ve decided not to sell by decade. Hoping someone will buy the whole collection or at least up to 1950. The only years I would sell individually would be the earliest ones.
