In 1980 I inherited a bound set of the first issues of National Geograhic ranging from 1888-1897.
They were issued by National Geographic in the 1960's.
Can anyone give me an idea of their value to a collector? I haven't yet decided to sell them, but I would still like an idea of their value.
Thank you for your help.

Dean,
I do not collect the individual reprint issues, but the following link searching eBay for "National Geographic Magazine reprint" may provide you some idea:

I have observed that full year listings tend to draw the most bids, but do not remember what any of them sold for.
With respect to "bound" sets, here's what I've recorded:
1) A "library set" of the bound REPRINT Volumes I thru VIII {1888 thru 1897} without inserts sold for $530 sometime in early 2010. I caution that you really never know how an auction might go.
2) I also know that two complete, with all inserts, "private collection" reprint bound sets, Volumes I thru XVIII {1888 thru 1907} sold for $2000 and $3000 each. These were both recorded back in late 2008 and early 2009 before I really started tracking sales (again - I don't really watch the reprints).
3) If you do an Abebooks search, you'll usually find book dealers try to sell bound volumes for about $250.00 per year (give or take), but dealers always charge more and give less - it's their business!

The "key selling point" to "reprints" is that they allow a collector to accurately collate any purchase of original magazines, i.e. validate the completeness/authenticity of their purchase.
I hope I've provided some assistance. Good luck!
