N.G.S. Parodies (Spoofs) over the years...
Over the years, there have been parodies of the National Geographic Magazine. I am including 4 samples (cover photos). These are the only parodies that I have so far:
1] MAD Magazine, May 1958 - "National OSOGRAPHIC", features 5 mock pages which were but one article in that months issue.
2] National Press Club "Inaugural Issue", January 1966 - this one was also produced in tight collaboration with the NGM and Melville Bell Grosvenor, to "celebrate" Society staff member Windsor P. Booth's promotion to the Presidency of the National Press Club; 20 pages.
3] National Lampoon, December 1972 - the Lampoon's 3-page take on Nat Geo. Again, this is only one article within that months issue.
If anyone else has any information regarding parodies and/or photos of these or other parodies (there are more out there!), please do share!

38] Waterworld, 1995. Five movie prop NGM covers from the 1995 movie courtesy of Jeff Persons. The fake covers, backs, and spines were attached to old NGM's that had their covers removed.

39] Postcard, no date. This postcard from Panama has an Indian reading a "National Geographic Magazine". Its 'cover' is hand drawn. It probably would have been easier to use a real issue.

Spanish satirical magazine "El Jueves" (The Thursday). The cover says "Beaches full of crap", and shows former president José María Aznar.

thanks, and I do seem to vaguely recall a line of dialogue in the first film about "Matt Hooper" being in National Geographic magazine, but I don't know if they showed a cover . . . ?

Another popular movie with a reference to the National Geographic is the 1975 thriller "Jaws". After a shark had been caught, the mayor Larry Vaughn (played by Murray Hamilton) is arguing with the oceanographer Matt Hooper (played by Richard Dreyfuss). Hooper insists their is another, larger shark still out there. One he calculates to be seventeen feet long.
Vaughn growls, "No shark grows seventeen feet, for Christ's sake."
To which Hooper replies, "The famous Swedish naturalist Linnaeus believed that the 'great fish' that swallowed Jonah was not a whale, but a great white shark."
Vaughn then snaps back, "Love to prove that, wouldn't you? Get into the National Geographic."

I know this prop doesn't appear in the first movie, but maybe it's in one of the three sequels. I do not remember seeing it in any of them though.
