Emily,

You will find it nearly impossible to sell such a large collection in bulk. You’ll have to find that one individual who is just now deciding to collect magazines they don’t already have – and has the money to purchase them (a rare individual at any time – but especially in this economy).

Collectors already have their inventory. They are simply looking to upgrade individual magazines, and this usually represents only the oldest magazines, i.e. older than 1920. For example, I have yet to offer for sale any of the 6000+ magazines I have collected above and beyond my “primary” collection. I am no longer willing to purchase an entire collection for the handful of magazines that “might” improve my collection.

Your most likely avenue of success will be to find a dealer “willing” to purchase your lot for a minimal expenditure, something like $500 plus or minus, who will then take the time to catalog and offer for sale individual magazines most likely grouped by year, i.e. twelve in a lot.

If you had the time, you could do this yourself on eBay. It would probably take you a few years to sell the bulk of this collection. Otherwise, please look up a dealer already set up to sell these items.

On the main page of this web site, upper left corner, is a link to “Dealer Directory.” This is a beginning for you. In the New York area, I have had excellent transactions with John Martello – who is also a member of this web site. I have also had good communications with Brisson Books in Vermont. These are just two suggestions based on my experience, not endorsements. I have very limited experiences with the other dealers listed in the North East and cannot offer any suggestions one way or the other so please don’t make any assumptions here. I advise you to call as many as you can and discuss the possibilities.

Another possibility could be locating a dealer who operates exclusively on eBay that is in your area. One such person is the dealer, “lalstuff.” I know she is in the NYC area and may be willing to work with you. I have had numerous transactions with her.

I hope this provides you some assistance. Good Luck!

Mel

Hello Emily I am interested. I am one of those rare collectors that has just started. I do have a few concerns and questions though. Feel free to respond to me through this website or e-mail me at T-Murray@Hotmail.com. I am also a new member of this website so I am not sure if there are other ways of communicating. Let me know what works best for you. Thank you so much Travis.
