Anyone else have these books? I just came across them from one of the members here. 21 books. One of the issues actually had a map pocket inside back cover with a map. Never seen or heard of these before. Nice addition to my collection.

Yes, these books contain abstracts and reviews of the results of the research and exploration projects sponsored by the Society since 1890. Publication of these volumes began in 1968, and ran for 21 volumes through to 1985 for the final volume.

The Research Reports series was discontinued in 1985 to make way for the Research & Exploration journal magazine which ran from 1985-1994.

Since its founding in 1888 the National Geographic Society has made more than 1,400 grants in support of research and exploration projects. These have resulted in hundreds of technical monographs as well as many memorable articles in the National Geographic magazine.

 

In 1968 the Society inaugurated a new publication, Research Reports, to summarize the findings of these diverse projects and to cite resulting publications. Whenever possible the summaries are written by the persons who did the research.
