You see that all the time in business. Big fish eat little fish.
Fox bought Nat Geo, Disney bought Fox, so Disney owns Nat Geo.
"the mouse ate the fox!" LOL
The Collector's Corner is still maintained by The Society.
Anthony,
It's a little more complicated than the replies state. In 2015, the for-profit and the non-profit sides of the Society were split apart. The non-profit side is the National Geographic Society. It is not owned others. The for-profit side is National Geographic Partners, LLC. The Walt Disney Company owns 73% of National Geographic Partners, LLC while the National Geographic Society owns the remaining 27%. 21st Century Fox use to own the portion now owned by Disney. National Geographic Partners, LLC handles all commercial activities related to the National Geographic Society including magazines, books, maps, etc. and television channels. The membership of the board of directors of National Geographic Partners, LLC is evenly divided between the National Geographic Society and Disney.
In short, if its something you buy it comes from National Geographic Partners, LLC. If you donate money to support expeditions or educational programs, it's the National Geographic Society. The National Geographic Society still runs education programs along with the GeoBee and the GeoChallenge.
Yeah, heh heh, A.J. asked this same question in another thread as well, and I had already given him the run-down, similar to yours, above. It's good you explained it here so others who happen upon this post will see the explanation.
