NAT GEO AMAZING!  PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS THAT WILL 'WOW' YOU

National Geographic Launches AMAZING! Franchise; Includes 10-part Series on National Geographic Channel and Companion Book

WASHINGTON (May 3, 2010)—National Geographic announces the launch of its new franchise, Nat Geo AMAZING!, a celebration of the world's most fascinating and fun people, places and things.

"Nat Geo AMAZING!", a 10-part television series, will debut on the National Geographic Channel on Friday, July 9, 2010, at 7 p.m. EST. Viewers will journey from the shores of Japan to the swamps of Costa Rica as the series reveals the wacky, often whimsical, always wild wonders of the world. From the discovery of a 2,300-year-old peat bog mummy to the heart-pounding story of a man escaping the jaws of death in Dangerous Reef, Australia, to the surprising tale of friendship between a tiger and a pig ... our bizarre world comes to life before one's eyes. Outside the United States, the show also premieres in July; viewers can check natgeotv.com for airdates.

The companion book will publish on June 29. Nat Geo AMAZING! 100 People, Places, and Things That Will Wow You (National Geographic Books; ISBN: 978-1-4262-0649-8; $19.95), by Melina Gerosa Bellows, grabs readers' attention with 100 stories — each one unique and more amazing than the last — told through lively text, thrilling images and incredible stories. It features natural beauty, raw emotion and odd phenomena through the discerning prism of the people who know the world best: National Geographic.
