1965 Air Force print ~ hitherto unknown to me until recently...

For a while, I could not put my finger on this specifically. There was a seller on eBay offering up a rolled print showing various planes circa the early/mid 1960's.

From his listing:

FLYING ARSENAL OF US AIR FORCE Poster – National Geographic Early 1960s 19X33

Original 19x33 early -60s National Geographic USAF aircraft inventory print, darn near mint no stains, no dulling ,no creases. Drawings are 1:240th. Picture is not framed but will be sent in mailing tube Awesome time period piece from 50 plus years ago when the USAF flew a wide variey of mission specific aircraft.

* actual image of seller's picture attached herein. It seems to have sold back in early December.

Note: this was actually the fold-out from pages 327-329 in the September 1965 issue, and this was the cover story as well.

As per the article reprints, these 2 stories were issued as a separate reprint booklet, and I'm tacking on a few photos as well. This is one of the instances where the article reprint cover matches the actual NGM cover ...except that the Sept. '65 copy has the red banner running on an angle at bottom for "Americans on Everest", whereas the reprint copy is without this announcement.

Thus:

Does anyone else have this rolled/unfolded print? And, did anyone ever hear of it? I do not recall ever seeing it in any listing of available pictorials available for separate purchase.

Scott,

I purchased one through the Society.  Of note, there is also an error in the foldout picture of the planes.  I believe that the USAF is backwards on one of the planes (I'm going from memory as most of my collection is in storage).  I believe that the misprint was corrected partially through the run.

Hi Jeff,

...good to know, thanks for indicating your acquisition. 'Tis fun having your stuff up in a storage unit, eh? I know the feeling //sigh//.

I'll have to get my loupe out now and look at each plane for this error!
