National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

The National Geographic Magazines that I have were left to me by an uncle and do not have any of the covers shown on NGM "Evolution of Our Cover" page . The "covers" are simply plain brown paper - like thin newsprint paper. The paper has not been added after production as it appears to be part of the bound magazine. The bound side has hand typing, i.e. "JAN. 1938 Vol. LXXIII, No. 1" (I have 8 different issues - all from 1938). Again, there is no cover on these issues other than the brown paper. I would appreciate any information about these issues, and am wondering if they were produced for servicemen during WWII. Does anyone know anything about these? Thank you!

Hi Sandra,

Sorry nobody replied to you since last month. Anyway, this is the first I have heard of this! Is it possible to post a photo of one of these so I can see?

These are individual copies (by month), yes?

Hi Scott:

Thanks for replying! I will post photos this weekend - great idea! These are individual monthly issues and, as mentioned, I have several of them. I wish that my uncle who left them to me had told me more about them - I have always been so curious and have never seen any others like them.
