This is the original reprint of the first National Geographic, Vol. I, No. I, October 1888 , from a minimal printing base, in pristine mint condition which I came across in my archives. I have seen only of these on Ebay offered for $9,475.00 I would like to see this have a good home, as I'm downsizing and am offering it for much less. Contact me if interested at DrZhivagoJr@aol.com

Richard, the highest eBay sale of an "original" October 1888, Volume I, No. 1 since December 2008 (when I began my database collecting) was $6,160.67 in Good condition. The next highest sale was $6,000.00 in Poor condition. The third highest sale was $4,850.00 in Fair condition.
As I stated, since December 2008, I have collected the highest three eBay sales for every "original" issue from October 1888 through December 1917.
What you have is a relatively common "reprint" that use to bring about $50 at most. Here lately, it's been closer to $15.
Good luck with your sale.

The seller (with 759 comments) should have enough experience to know better. I have seen this before with those wishing to commit fraud on unsuspecting buyer. This is so blatant, however, with outlandish prices, I doubt the seller is serious and hoping they'll attract some foolish person with enough money to make the purchase. It can happen, but usually people with that much money are more discerning with their purchases - or they wouldn't have it to begin with.
At least, this is my take on the situation.

Mel
Melvin L. De Vilbiss, thank you for your input. I, too, thought the eBay price was outrageous. As I stated, I am offering my reprint for much less and will consider any interested parties and their offers. I retired not long ago and have no experience; just starting to uncover and enjoy my vintage Geographics and sell the doubles, 1909-1920, from my grandfather.
