~ MENTION THE GEOGRAPHIC -- IT IDENTIFIES YOU ~
A place to discuss and post classic and modern Ads on any product or service found in The National Geographic Magazine, and welcome...
Fellow 'Corner member Philip Riviere suggested that there be an Ads (advertising) Group. As many collector's and others know, the vintage ads found in National Geographic Magazine over the years are classic, and truly a time capsule of days gone by.
It it noteworthy that there is an entire breed of enthusiasts-collectors (often non-Nat Geo 'o-philes) who revere, obtain, and collate NGM ads as a stand-alone hobby. They will buy or take NGM's simply to remove the ads for their general collections of myriad advertising materials.
Especially nostalgic for many --akin to a Norman Rockwell type of sentiment-- are the old Coca-Cola ads, and also in particular the automobile ads for Ford, Packard, GM, Chrysler, etc.

** I'm wondering if this group will also need to be inclusive of advertising topics in general, as pertains to the Society at-large, the Channel(s), as well as more contemporary marketing aspects. **

Great idea, as always Scott!
Personally I think the thumbnail should be one of the Christmas Coke ads, but I'll leave it to you and Phil to decide.

The February 1984 back cover with Campari was probably an overseas edition meant for Great Britain and Continental Europe. I have Several Geographics from 1983 that came from overseas that have Campari ads on the backcover as well as at least one in the inside of the magazine. National Geographic overseas copies have radically different advertising pages than what United States issues have. The Geographic had been doing this at least since 1971.
