NGM with a Green Border? What's up!

Hi All!

The attached NGM for Sept. 1977 has been bordered with green instead of the usual yellow.  After the press run of the yellow bordered cover had been completed, a few more covers were run off with a green border for testing the new binding machinery at the new plant in Corinth, Miss.  Copies with the green borders could not inadvertently be distributed by mistake.  All the best copies bound were simply made up from gatherings assembled in any order.  Less then a half-a-dozen (possibly only two) were sent to headquarters as curiosities.  Gil Grosvenor's, for instance, had a foldout from Playboy in the middle.

Dee Andella, Chief of Engraving and Printing gave Warner L. Janney one proof copy on Sept. 28,    1977.   Dee, himself, replaced the cover of a regular copy with one of the special one and threw the other two covers away. Janney rescued them and knows of no other copies saved.

Interesting tid-bit in the NGS history!
