National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

I live in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia and am moving to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.  I have to drastically downsize. My husband and I have subscribed to NGM since 1963 and have collected National Geographic Magazines for many other years.  I have:

Bound Volumes: - six with slightly damaged spines, others in excellent condition

Jan-Jun and Jul-Dec for 1915, 1917, 1922, 1924, 1925

Jan-Jun for 1916 and 1926

Jan-Jun and Jul-Dec for 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937

Jan-Jun and Jul-Dec for 1958, 1959, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971

Jan-Jun, 1960, 1972

Single Volumes: - in excellent condition

All volumes from July 1972 to present (2013)

Single Volumes: - any damage is slight to cover

Can list if you are interested. Too numerous to list here.

There are also a number of single volumes where the damage is more than slight.

Pam,

This is a reply to your question asked of me on another post, but I believe this is the subject you were asking about.

I must first say I have no experience with the Australian market. It could be entirely different than here in the U.S.

Second, selling into the U.S. market from Australia would most likely require prohibitive shipping costs, negating any small profit you might otherwise gain.

According to my record keeping on "only" U.S. eBay sales for the past few years, the most expensive bound Volume 27/28 (complete year of 1915) was $100 (always U.S.). This was a beautiful two book leather bound set with all supplements with Table of Contents and Index. The second highest sale was $74.95.

In contrast, the highest sale for a bound Volume 31/32 (complete year of 1917) was $50.00 with the second highest being $24.95.

I have not kept records for years newer than 1917 - but can say with some confidence the prices drop off quickly. In other words, I believe you would do well to sell a Volume 47/48 (complete year of 1925) for $15.00.

Generally speaking, bound volumes sell for less than half the price (usually 1/4 the price) an entire volume of loose issues (12 per year for our discussion here) would sell.

There are "always" exceptions.

I hope this reply provides some assistance.

Good Luck!

Mel

Mel,

Thank you.

I wouldn't consider shipping to the U.S.of A. I am rather hoping for a response from someone in Australia. I think I will need all the luck I can get!!

Pam.
