"Good Morning Mike - I have six treasured NG magazines that contain articles about the Yankee, five by the Johnsons and one, the final one, by Luis Marden. They are:
January 1942 - Westward Bound in the…"
My family and I were on Rarotonga during the summer of 1964. My father was freelancing for NGS and he has a box of 35mm Kodachrome slides of the Brigantine Yankee on the reef. The are not closeups, just shots from a…"
"I have this DVD set. The Voyage of the Brigantine Yankee is NOT on it. To the best of my knowledge the "Voyage" has NEVER been re-released since 1966. Perhaps someone from NGS could enlighten us if this is incorrect? I did see a mint…"
Just wanted to be sure you didn't overlook page 2 of this blog. Be sure to check the link provided by Tom Olin (page 2), on his superb documentation of his Grandfather on his newly created blog.
I have never received a reply from Stuart nor anyone else. I have e-mailed a lady who's relative was on the Yankee also, got her email somewhere during an on line search but never a reply from her. I have never received a…"
"I would love to get a copy of any quality of the Brigantine Yankee in Europe. When they went through the Netherlands, they covered an event called "Fier Ljeppen" in which my great uncle Jetse Jorritsma participated. We saw him on TV back…"
This was in fact released as an educational video in VHS and the large format U that colleges used. Therer may even be Sony Beta as well though I have not seen a catalogue offering such. They were very expensive and I assume are under 500 ever sold, certainly no more than a thousand. If some one offers you one, I would be interested in hearing about it.
I would also think that the Society would at least recoup its costs, if not turn marginal profit if it were to re-release on CDRom or DVD, even if they did not digitally enhance it to modern production standards. I would certainly buy a copy.
