National Geographic Vintage Issues
among Items Available Online and Live Auction January 31, 2010

HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. (January 20, 2010) – Hollywood Entertainment Museum (HEM) today announced the release of historically significant items for auction to provide educational opportunities of LA’s
at-risk youth.  Presented by Super
Auctions, nearly one hundred years of Hollywood history will be up for bid at a
live, online auction January 31,
2010.

How can you alter the direction of a life?  Not by lecturing, not by punishing, but by providing opportunities.  This is the thought of the directors of Hollywood Entertainment Museum (HEM)’s Education Center for the
Entertainment Arts
. [quote here…Phyllis??? Something like: I have
seen teenagers transform here at the education center.  Last year, Eric came to our school after he
had been convicted of armed robbery—having held up a convenience store with
fellow gang members.  Eric appeared
resistant at first, but became excited about our animation design classes.  Today he has professional level skills in a
field that is high in demand.  Eric’s
future plans include work as an animator, college-level art classes and
building security for himself and his family.”]

Founded in 1996, (HEM) is an exceptional mix of culture and education. This program is one of the most successful in the country and serves as a global model. It is this unique fusion of education, community and culture
that grounds HEM in a deep sense of social responsibility.  As a result, more than 82 percent of HEM
students graduated high school, and 50 percent of those graduates went on to
college.

Like all schools, HEM is faced with tough, economic conditions, and they have found a unique way to cover expenses. HEM is placing items on the auction block to raise money to keep the school in operation.  Fans of movies, television shows and the stars
of by-gone eras, have an opportunity to claim a piece of history, while they
provide educational opportunities that change lives.  From the ridiculous to the sublime, items
include

  • a full-scale replica of The Creature from Aliens;
  • exquisite, bronze, life-sized statutes of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton;
  • items from the Max Factor collection
  • Vintage issues of National Geographic, Costume Period scrapbooks, photographs and more.
