Jeff,

It was folded, just like the one with the line.

If you join the group in which the discussion is located (in this case the Maps/Supplement/Index group) you will be able to comment directly to the discussion.  As a bonus, whenever someone posts to that group, either a new discussion or comment to an existing one, you will get a notification.

Jeff, In one of Scott's discussions on old indexes, you mentioned to Mel that you have a revised copy of Nathan's guide (2000) that Roger gave you before his passing. If you have access to it, I was wondering if if you could see if the January 1983 maps of DC are referenced in his map supplement section.

A discussion of this item can be found at:

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks so much, Jeff.

This helps my research into this item greatly.

And thanks for the additional information.

It's definitely food for thought.

Yours in collecting,

Tom Wilson

Dear Jeff,

Just a quick note to acknowledge your request and I'll look into these 2 questions.

Best wishes,

Cathy

Hello again,

The obituary in file does not give exact dates for his title, but merely states that he retired in 1996 after 30 years at NGS and that his work focused on administrative and financial matters such as postal rates.

As for your other question about a television show for children, one of the librarians is looking into that.

Thank you for your patience,

Cathy

Jeff,

Feel free to email me any images of these covers.  Just to be clear, the list you want updated is "Variations to the Covers of the National Geographic"?

My email is:   wilsong@comcast.net

Thanks for everything, Jeff.  I got them all added into the discussion.  I used everything you sent me except one duplicate image for Nov. 2003.  Let me know what you think.

Jeff,

I have a quick question re: the Chautauquan, 1904 article about Panama by Grosvenor.

Which volume is it?  I see more than one from that year.

Thanks,

Tom

Jeff,

The Chautauquan issue is from March 1904.  It is Volume 39, Number 1.  The article is the seventh in a series: "Reading Journey in the Borderlands of the United States".  It starts on page 23 and is 18 pages in length.

Sorry, but the answer is "no" to both questions.

Jeff,

The first two look good for my "Cover Variations" discussion, while the second two look more like supplements.  I don't have a Supplement discussion per se,  maybe show them to Phil Riviere.  He's posted images of maps and supplements.

Thanks for the info,

Tom

This looks to me as a parody cover.  That's just my opinion.  The Nat Geo cover shown within the issue might fall under a "How Others See Us" item.

On further review, it is NOT a parody cover.  All "Wheels of Time" magazines have a yellow border.  It is not an homage to the Nat Geo.  The image (February 1974 issue) within would still be a "HOSU" entry though.  It does have the article "Trucks Race the Clock from Coast to Coast".  It is a reprint, but by a third party.

Jeff,

I have version #1: the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Jeff,

Is this the British edition?

I know the UK version I have (Hubble) has distinctly British advertisements.  All articles are the same.

At 5:07pm on April 19, 2018, Jeffry Persons said…

Tom,

It is a UK version.  The car ads are all generic, but when you read the fine print it mention EU which I assume means European Union.  There is one other ad from NGS which has an amount in pounds.

Thanks for your help, it's still a neat cover.

Jeff.
