National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

Did anyone happen to notice the announcement on the January 2020 issue's mailing wrapper about a "subscriber collection"?

The thing that has me most interested is the reprint of Vol 1, No 1 issue. Does this signify a new printing of the reprint, or are they still trying to clear out a stockpile of say, the 1975 reprint copies?

here's the link as provided on the wrapper:

Note: I already have the tote bag ---> 2 of them, haha.

When Roger Nathan published his book, he stated the 1975 reprint was still in production. Granted, that was about 1982, but perhaps the NGS never put it to rest...

Truth be told, I don't really know the answer to your question, Scott.

Bottom line, Mel, the 1,000 printed claim may be only for the initial run and be a gross underestimation of their total number.  Bummer.

As I've said many times, just when I think I've got the NGS figured out - I find I don't know what I'm talking about - Ha!

I only recently came across Nathan's comment, re: the 1975 reprint was still in production, in his (Nathan's) 1982 Collector's Guide.

I was reminded once again how he and Buxbaum were able to put it all together for those of us who followed.
