National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

Most of you may remember my husband, Philip Riviere, as he was a frequent poster to this sight.  He passed away quite suddenly in November, leaving me to dispose of his large collection of Geographics.

Scott Shier is familiar with his collection and can probably answer any questions about it, if he wouldn't mind.

Long story short, I would like to find a good home for them with someone who treasures them as much as he did.

Thank you,

JoAnn L Riviere

So sad.  He was a good friend.  My condolences to you and your family.

JoAnn L Riviere,

I sent you a private message via Philip's address with respect to desires he had expressed to several of us on the forum at the time of his diagnosis.

I would be willing to assist in fulfilling Philip's desires if you wish. Please contact me by PM.

Sincerely,

Mel

In honor of our friend Phil, I will be fulfilling one of his unfinished intentions for this site ---> I will post every cover of National Geographic Magazine. He had started posting covers for the 2010's in early 2016. His last cover added was the October 2018 issue.

From his message about the covers archive he was working on:

Scott,

Planning on posting the monthly issue covers in this album at the corner as they come out. I've also done research on the early covers and plan to post all of  them here at the corner so all covers will be here just as I've posted all the maps.

Phil

I'm sorry he was unable to finish his endeavor, and it will make me happy to see it finished.

Scott.

Phil completed that project and while he was on his next, posting in-magazine maps (mostly sketch maps), he continued posting new covers right up to end.  I've been posting the new covers since then, but I haven't been using his naming convention.  I could always rename them if you think I should.  Its only a handful.

Tom

Tom, yes he had "finished" it but through a slight glitch a while back (prior to his diagnosis), almost all of the covers he uploaded are gone (eg, his folders). All that remains is a partial folder, with April 2016-October 2018 in it.

Sadly. Hence, my post. I'm going to re-upload them all, in decade folders. . .

All the photos are there. I reference them all the time.  He just never moved them into an album (or set of albums).  I don't remember them being in albums,  The recent ones you listed were the ones he was adding a month at a time, after he had uploaded the bulk of them.  Maybe he meant to move them into albums but was never able to do it..

I see, I just found them !

Scott,

If you have a list of Phil's items, please froward it to me at natgeo at whovian dot name. Thank you.
