Rarotonga International Airport - aerial view looking SSE

The Rarotonga International Airports runway length is 2,328 meters or 7,638 feet was Officially Opened by Her Majesty the Queen on the 29th January 1974.
Bill Johnson was the Official Construction Photographer from start to finish of the International Airport during the early part of 1970's and Bill was the Cook Islands Government's Royal Photographer for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who was accompanied by her daughter Princes Anne and Captain Mark Phillips (Princess Anne's former husband) during January 28th & 29th 1974.
Bill was also the Official Cook Islands Government Photographer for H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh; Lord Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma; Lord & Lady Brabourne during their Royal Tour to Rarotonga in 1971 on board the Royal Yacht Britannia.
In 1976, Bill was honored with being 'piped on board' H.M. Royal Yacht Britannia and met Rear-Admiral Hugh Janion on the wing of the Royal Yacht's bridge and was still on the bridge when she pulled her anchor off the reefs edge, consequently Bill was treated to a short cruise on the world famous Royal Yacht, few people would ever have experienced that during their lifetime, apart from Royal family members and the ships crew.
