I once shipped 20 book boxes filled with research material from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Baltimore, Maryland using freight. It only cost a few hundred dollars and took 6 weeks (but the entire process was through a company that had a standing freight account with the shipper). I did not make the final shipping arrangements. circa 1993.

In 2010 I shipped 14 years worth of NGM's via UPS for $125. Media mail would be about 2/3rd that cost - but the post office will not ship "declared - hint, hint" NGM's because of their advertisements - no matter how old they are.

Last October 2016, I had someone ship 55 bound volumes of NGM's to me. They chose to use UPS (though w/o the advertisements could probably have shipped them media mail through USPS) at a cost of $140.

UPS has the standard book boxes for sale (note the prices above do not include the packaging costs - just the shipping costs), but there are container/box stores strategically placed that provide discounts for bulk purchases. These stores also have smaller, easier to handle book boxes. Also, most U-Haul locations sell book boxes.

Hope this helps.

K,

(From Mel on this cite) It cost (in 2010) about $125 to ship 14 years worth of NG magazines via UPS - this did not include packing material costs. The Post Office will not ship (declared – hint! hint!) "magazines" via media mail because of their "advertisements."
