National Geographic's Collectors Corner

Collaborative site for collectors, dealers, & anyone interested in our history.

I would like to thank all of the people who answered and helped me with valuing my collection. I realize now that what is valuable is the society reprints of 1888-1907, most people giving me valuations betweem $2,500 and $3,500. The entire collection from 1916-present in society slipcases is not worth that much, except for certain issues that sell between $10 and $35. So my offer is to sell the contents of the 2 shelves in the attached photos, plus any other issues that you specify between 1916 and present that I will single out of the collection. I will donate the rest to the library.

The contents of the 2 shelves is Society reprints from 1888-1907, original magazines bound in covers from 1906-1918. Additional reprint of Vol 1 No 1 and original duplicate mags from Nov 1899, Dec 1900, Jan and Dec 1906 and Dec 1909. Assorted maps, and the 1988 100-year index. Also the complete DVD set.

My asking price is $2,500 and you pay for shipping.shelf 1Shelf 2

Finbar,

Some details that may help sell your items, if you don't mind?

It is uncommon to see volumes with complete magazines (covers and ads) bound into them. Are your 1906 - 1918 volumes just with their covers (still unique) or are they "complete magazines" bound into the volumes, which would make them more desirable?

Could you provide "oblique" pictures of your duplicate originals showing their spine and front cover and the flip side (back cover), particularly your Nov 1899 and Dec 1900? Both of these are moderately valuable issues, especially if complete with an intact spine and attached covers.

Finally, if you could give us a "condition" of your 1916 - 1919 loose issues, i.e. covers intact, with no missing pieces on their spine and all pages (to include ads) present {hence, an issue that can be considered Very Good} you might find these are readily marketable items.

Good luck!

Mel

Hello Finbar,

I could be interested in some of your single issues from the teens and forties.  Please email me at john@mcwc1.com.

Thanks,

John
