Reference the third (3rd) ad page from the back cover:
I have one issue with a picture captioned:
“WHAT THE LARVA OF A BEAUTIFUL SWALLOW-TAIL BUTTERFLY LOOKS LIKE”
And one issue with a picture captioned:
“A DEMON FLY KILLER: THE PRAYING MANTIS”
Both issues are exact in all other respects, to include the fourth (4th) ad page from the back cover, i.e. the reverse side of the third (3rd) ad page.
Both photos are by David Fairchild and are from the “Book of Monsters.”
Has anyone else discovered such anomalies for this issue or any others?

Mel,
I have 3 copies(one digital from the DVD) of the Aug. 1914 Nat Geo . All 3 have the mantis add. The second add from the back which faces the pages (Adds) in question is for a Nat Geo book "The Book of Monsters" The mantis and I presume the larva pics are from the book of Monsters. I guess they used a mix of different pics to illustrate the left side of the 2 page add for the book. We'll have to go through all our early mutiple copies and look for similar multi-pic adds.
Phil
Phil,
Something new "rediscovered!"
I wonder how many of the old guys like Buxbaum took this knowledge with them?
Yes - we'll have to go through them all; and yes, the picture of the larva is the same picture on the cover of the "Book of Monsters" first edition.
Thanks for your reply!
Mel
